Physical Education

Having achieved a First Class Physical Education (Secondary) BA (hons) with QTS at De Montfort University, I began my journey at Oakgrove School. Having remained here for 11 years, it’s clear to see that I love my job and have a passion for ensuring the provision of high quality Physical Education within schools.

Working in such a new school has provided fantastic opportunities to shape, build and develop a successful department through my leadership roles. One of my key strengths is that I never get complacent, and as a result, I am always looking for innovative ways to improve students sporting experiences and department working practices. This includes variations to curriculum maps, exploring opportunities for department CPD, refining schemes of work, developing robust assessment and data tracking systems as well as the provision of an extensive extra-curricular programme.

I have experience at KS4 within both BTEC and GCSE PE courses and have achieved consistently pleasing outcomes with groups taught. My methodical organisational skills lend themselves to the preparation required for practical moderations. I have also planned and implemented new courses at KS5, moving from A Level PE to Level 3 BTEC Sport. I believe lessons must be equally engaging and challenging to enable student progress.

I am also keen to share my knowledge to help others enhance not only their skill set, but also their confidence. I have contributed to whole school training twilights, have a wealth of experience mentoring NQT’s and have welcomed numerous PE trainees within the department to prepare and equip them for their career as a teacher. I also liaise with local Primary Schools to help enhance PE provision within the local area. Such examples include the training and implementation of Secondary School ‘Club leaders’, hosting a ‘More able and Motivated’ Gifted and Talented event and assisting with the organisation of Primary Sports Day’s. I am delighted to be a Specialist Leader in Education for PE and look forward to working with schools in this area.
