Art and Design

I am on the Senior Leadership Team at a large secondary academy in Milton Keynes. I have been in teaching sixteen years, having worked previously in some challenging and diverse secondary schools in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Luton. Also spending time working in a part Selective International School in Asia. My specialist subject is Art and Design with a keen interest in Photography and Graphic Design. With Thirteen years’ experience of middle management and running very successful departments, also six years’ experience here at Oakgrove, I have had the opportunity to observe the changing landscape within education and be part of a successful team in managing the transition from A-C GCSEs to 1-9 grading.

I love being in the classroom and encouraging students with their ideas and work. I believe that all students can succeed; it is down to us to figure out how. With this in mind, I am convinced that collaboration and shared good practice are the best ways of continuing to develop as a teacher. Many art and creative departments are small, in some cases just a couple of people, and so school to school support offers the perfect opportunity to learn from each other, and for us to come together to give students the best possible experiences of learning.

Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed working with colleagues to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Through coaching and modelling sessions with staff, including staff experiencing difficulties, NQT’s, RQT’s and SCITT students, to facilitating middle leadership development throughout the faculty, I feel I have the experience at SLE level to make a real impact in schools. I am currently responsible for Careers at Oakgrove and I am keen to bring vocational links and employability skills to the creative departments.
